The TVS Jupiter 125 has a few parts, like its gearbox oil and drive belt, that are easy to forget because they are only due every few years. This is what TVS’s own owner’s manual specifies about the whole schedule.
The short answer
- Three free services: at 500–750 km, 5,500–6,000 km and 11,500–12,000 km.
- Then a service every 6,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
- Engine oil is replaced at every service: SAE 10W30, API SL, JASO MB, 700 ml.
- Every 24,000 km: transmission oil, drive belt, CVT rollers and clutch shoes.
The service schedule
From the TVS Jupiter 125 owner’s manual (pages 72 and 98). Each service is due at the kilometre reading or the time limit, whichever comes first:
- 1st free service: 500–750 km, or 30–60 days from the date of sale.
- 2nd free service: 5,500–6,000 km, or 6 months.
- 3rd free service: 11,500–12,000 km, or 12 months.
- Paid services after that: every 6,000 km or 6 months (the manual lists them up to 47,500–48,000 km at 48 months).
“Free” means free labour. TVS states that engine oil, periodic maintenance parts, filters, brake fluid, greases and other consumables are chargeable on both free and paid services.
What gets done, and when
At the regular services
- Engine oil replaced and the oil strainer cleaned.
- Tappet clearance inspected and adjusted.
- Variator cover inspected, cleaned and lubricated; throttle cable cleaned, lubricated and adjusted.
- Brakes inspected and adjusted; wheels, tyres and pressure checked.
- Lights, horn, switches and headlamp focus checked; battery voltage checked.
- The engine’s fault codes (MIL codes) inspected and cleared with a diagnostic tool.
On longer intervals
- Spark plug: replaced every 12,000 km.
- Air filter: replaced every 12,000 km.
- Evaporative emission system: inspected every 18,000 km.
- Transmission oil: replaced every 24,000 km.
- Drive belt, CVT rollers and clutch shoes: replaced every 24,000 km.
- Disc brake version only: brake fluid replaced at 21,000 km or 2 years, and master cylinder cups at 18,000 km.
Two oils, not one
The Jupiter has a small, separate gearbox with its own oil: 120 ml of the same TVS TRU4 Skuuta oil (SAE 10W30, API SL, JASO MB) used in the engine (manual page 74). It is checked at the level screw and replaced every 24,000 km. Because it is due so rarely, it is often missed. The manual also warns that overfilling can cause oil leaks.
Note the JASO MB rating. That is right for this scooter, whose clutch does not run in the engine oil, but it is the wrong oil for most geared motorcycles. See which engine oil does your bike need?
Warranty
TVS’s manual states that servicing at scheduled intervals at a TVS authorised main dealer or authorised dealer is necessary for availing the warranty, and it excludes vehicles on which a scheduled service, including a paid one, was not done at an authorised dealer when due (pages 96–97). While your Jupiter is under warranty, keep its services in the TVS network. We explain the wider picture in does doorstep bike service void your warranty?
Starting problems
If your Jupiter will not start, check the side stand first. The manual says it will not start with the stand down, and that a fault in the side-stand sensor can also stop it starting. More in bike not starting: what to check first.
After the warranty: doorstep service
Once the warranty has ended, the Jupiter 125 falls into our general service up to 125 cc package, listed at ₹1,225 on the package page, which shows the full checklist and what is excluded. Every service carries a 7-day warranty on our workmanship, and no part is replaced without your approval.
