The Honda Dio follows the same rhythm as most Honda scooters: one early service, then one every 6,000 km or 6 months. Being a scooter, it has a few jobs a motorcycle doesn’t: a drive belt, a separate final drive oil and clutch shoes. This guide sets out what Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s own documents for the current Dio 110 say: when each service is due, what gets done, which oil it takes, what the warranty requires, and what a service costs with us.

The short answer

  • First service: at 1,000 km or 1 month.
  • Then every 6,000 km or 6 months, whichever is earlier: 6,000, 12,000, 18,000 km and so on.
  • Engine oil is replaced at every one of those services, and at the annual check.
  • Drive belt: inspected at 12,000 km and replaced at 24,000 km. Final drive oil: replaced every 2 years.

This follows Honda’s January 2025 Dio owner’s manual and the Dio maintenance schedule published with it (marked OBD2-B). The manual covers the Dio 110 versions sold in India (Honda’s codes SCV110F and SCV110FB). The Dio 125 has its own manual.

The service schedule

Honda lists each service against an odometer reading and a number of months, and says to “service according to odometer reading or months, whichever is earlier” (owner’s manual, printed pages 82–83):

  • 1st service: 1,000 km, or 1 month.
  • 2nd service: 6,000 km, or 6 months.
  • Then: 12,000, 18,000, 24,000, 30,000 and 36,000 km, at 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 months.
  • Beyond 36,000 km: repeat at the same intervals.

The chart also has an annual check. It does not say how many services are free; any free-service coupons come with your dealer’s service booklet. The manual itself says that “all scheduled maintenance is considered a normal owner operating cost” and asks you to keep the receipts (page 81).

What gets done, and when

At every service

  • Engine oil replaced.
  • Engine idle speed and the brake system inspected.
  • From the 6,000 km service on: throttle operation, valve clearance, battery, brake shoe wear, brake lock operation, headlight aim, suspension and the wheels and tyres are inspected each time, and the crankcase breather is cleaned.

On longer intervals

  • Spark plug: inspected at 6,000, 18,000 and 30,000 km and replaced every 12,000 km. Honda specifies an NGK MR8E-9 or Bosch UR5DE0, gapped at 0.8–0.9 mm (page 142).
  • Engine oil strainer screen: cleaned every 12,000 km.
  • Air filter: replaced every 18,000 km, and more often in unusually wet or dusty conditions.
  • Drive belt: inspected at 12,000 and 36,000 km, replaced at 24,000 km.
  • Final drive oil: replaced every 2 years. Honda notes that this needs mechanical skill.
  • Clutch shoes and steering head bearings: inspected every 12,000 km.
  • Honda diagnostic system: checked at 6,000, 18,000 and 30,000 km. Evaporative emission control system: inspected at 18,000 and 36,000 km.

Honda marks many of these as jobs that need proper tools and service data, and the diagnostic system, clutch shoes, wheels and tyres and steering head bearings as dealer-only for safety (page 82 and the maintenance schedule).

Brakes: shoes, not pads

The Dio 110 in this manual uses drum brakes, so the schedule lists brake shoe wear rather than pads or brake fluid. The manual explains the check: when the brake is applied, an arrow on the brake arm moves toward a reference mark on the brake panel, and if it lines up with the mark at full application, the shoes must be replaced by your dealer (page 109).

Engine oil

The quantities: 0.55 litres for an oil change, 0.60 litres when the strainer screen is cleaned too, and 0.75 litres after an engine rebuild (pages 103 and 142). The final drive takes 0.09 litres of transmission oil after draining (page 142). As in Honda’s 2025 Activa and Shine 125 manuals, the engine oil grade appears in two places with different viscosities:

  • The Specifications page recommends Honda 4-stroke motorcycle oil, SAE 5W-30, JASO T 903 MB, API SJ or higher (page 142).
  • The Engine Oil page says that if you use another oil, it must meet JASO MB, SAE 10W-30 and API SJ or higher (page 88).

Either way it must be JASO MB, the scooter grade (motorcycles such as the Shine take MA), and not an oil marked “Energy Conserving” or “Resource Conserving” (page 89). If you are unsure which viscosity applies to your scooter, follow the manual that came with it. More in which engine oil does your bike need?

Tyre pressures

Checked cold (page 142): front 22 psi (1.50 kgf/cm²). The rear depends on the load: 29 psi (2.00 kgf/cm²) riding alone, 36 psi (2.50 kgf/cm²) with a passenger. Low pressure costs mileage; see why your bike’s mileage is dropping.

Warranty conditions

Honda warrants the Dio for 36 months or 36,000 km, whichever comes first, with repairs done at its authorised workshops (page 144). Tyres and the battery are covered by their own makers. The warranty does not apply to “any vehicle on which any free and paid services has not been carried out, as per schedule given in Owner’s Manual” (page 145), or to a vehicle “that has not been serviced by HMSI authorised dealer as per the service schedule” (page 146). Wear items such as the drive belt, clutch weights, brake shoes, air cleaner element and engine oil are not covered (page 145).

So while your Dio is under warranty, keep every scheduled service with a Honda dealer and keep the receipts. More in does doorstep bike service void your warranty?

After the warranty: doorstep service and cost

The Dio’s engine is 109.51 cc (page 141), so it falls into our general service up to 110 cc, listed at ₹999 + 18% GST on the package page, which shows the full checklist and what is excluded. It includes engine oil replacement. Parts that Honda’s schedule calls for at longer intervals, such as a spark plug, air filter or drive belt, are extra, and no part is replaced without your approval. Every service carries a 7-day warranty on our workmanship. You can also book from the Honda Dio page. For Honda’s best-selling scooter, see the Honda Activa service schedule.
