This guide covers the current Royal Enfield Classic 350, the fuel-injected 349 cc model launched in 2021, not the older carburettor Classic. Everything here comes from Royal Enfield’s own owner’s manual for it: when each service is due, what gets done, which oil to use, and what the warranty requires.
The short answer
- Four free services: 500 km or 45 days, then 5,000 km, 10,000 km and 15,000 km (or 6, 12 and 18 months).
- After that, a service every 5,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
- Engine oil and oil filter are replaced at 500 km and then every 10,000 km. The oil is inspected at the 5,000 km services in between.
- Oil grade: SAE 15W-50, API SL, JASO MA2, semi-synthetic. 1.7 litres at an oil change.
- Drive chain: cleaned and lubricated every 1,000 km; cleaned, lubricated and adjusted every 5,000 km.
The service schedule
The manual’s service record lists four free services, each due at the kilometre reading or the time limit, whichever is earlier (page 132):
- 1st free service: 500 km, or 45 days.
- 2nd free service: 5,000 km, or 6 months.
- 3rd free service: 10,000 km, or 12 months.
- 4th free service: 15,000 km, or 18 months.
“Free” means free labour only. The manual states that parts, lubricants, filters and other consumables are charged at every service (page 132).
After that, the maintenance chart continues at 5,000 km or 6-month steps up to 50,000 km, and Royal Enfield says to repeat the same pattern beyond that (pages 111–115). The service reminder on the instrument cluster comes on at 450 km, 4,900 km and then every 5,000 km (page 34). Royal Enfield also says to shorten the intervals if the bike is ridden hard or in very dusty conditions.
What gets done, and when
The periodic maintenance chart (pages 111–115) has 32 items. The ones worth knowing:
- Engine oil: replaced at 500 km, then at 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 and 50,000 km, and inspected at the services in between. The rider should check the level every 1,000 km and top up as required.
- Oil filter: replaced with every oil change, and the oil strainer cleaned.
- Air filter: cleaned at the early services and replaced every 10,000 km, more often in dusty conditions.
- Throttle body: removed and cleaned every 10,000 km or 12 months. The manual specifies a dry microfibre cloth and says throttle body cleaners or any solvent or alcohol-based liquid are strictly prohibited (page 115). Worth knowing if a mechanic reaches for a spray can.
- Front fork oil: replaced every 20,000 km.
- Brake fluid: DOT 4, replaced every 20,000 km and inspected at every service. The manual warns against mixing DOT 4 with other brake fluids (page 19).
- Brake pads, brake hoses and tyre wear: inspected at every service.
- Drive chain: cleaned and lubricated every 1,000 km; cleaned, lubricated and adjusted every 5,000 km.
- Clutch lever free play: adjusted every 1,000 km or earlier as required.
The chain and clutch items fall between services, so they are either done by the rider or at a quick stop. See how to clean, lube and check the chain.
Engine oil
Royal Enfield specifies SAE 15W-50, API SL grade, JASO MA2, semi-synthetic. An oil change takes 1.7 litres; a dry engine holds 2.2 litres (page 19). The manual warns that the wrong grade reduces the life of moving parts and affects performance.
This is less oil than the older carburettor Classic 350, which took 2.3–2.5 litres, so do not go by old figures. See which engine oil does your bike need?
Chain, tyres and spark plug
- Chain free play: 25–30 mm (page 83). The manual warns that slack beyond 30 mm leads to chain slippage and faster wear of the chain and sprockets, and that both wheels must be aligned after adjusting (page 84).
- Tyre pressures: 32 psi front and rear when riding solo; 32 psi front and 36 psi rear with a pillion (page 16).
- Spark plug gap: 0.7–0.8 mm (page 14).
Warranty
The manual’s standard warranty runs for 36 months or 30,000 km, whichever comes first (page 116). It applies only if all maintenance and services within the warranty period are done at a Royal Enfield authorised dealer or service centre, as per the schedule in the manual (page 117).
While your Classic 350 is under warranty, keep its services in the Royal Enfield network. More in does doorstep bike service void your warranty?
After the warranty: doorstep service
Once the warranty has ended, the Classic 350 falls into our Royal Enfield 350–400 cc service, listed at ₹2,999 on the package page, which shows the full checklist and what is excluded. Every service carries a 7-day warranty on our workmanship, and no part is replaced without your approval. For the Hunter 350, see its Hunter 350 service schedule.
