The Royal Enfield Hunter 350’s service schedule is quite different from the older Royal Enfield 350s many owners and mechanics are used to. This is what Royal Enfield’s own owner’s manual specifies.
The short answer
- First service at 500 km (or 45 days), then every 5,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first.
- Four free-labour services: 500 km, 5,000 km, 10,000 km and 15,000 km.
- Engine oil is replaced at 500 km and then every 10,000 km; it is inspected at the 5,000 km services in between.
- Oil grade: SAE 15W50, API SL, JASO MA2, semi-synthetic, about 1.7 litres.
The service schedule
From the Hunter 350 owner’s manual (pages 85–89 and 103). The periodic maintenance chart runs at 500 km, then every 5,000 km up to 50,000 km, with a matching time limit (1.5 months, then every 6 months). After 50,000 km, the manual says to repeat the same pattern.
- 1st free service: 500 km or 45 days.
- 2nd free service: 5,000 km or 6 months.
- 3rd free service: 10,000 km or 12 months.
- 4th free service: 15,000 km or 18 months.
The manual is explicit that labour is free for these services alone: parts, lubricants, filters and other consumables are chargeable.
What gets done, and when
Oil and filters
- Engine oil: replaced at 500 km, then at 10,000, 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 and 50,000 km. Inspected at the services in between. The manual also asks the rider to check the level every 1,000 km.
- Oil filter: replaced along with the oil changes.
- Air filter: cleaned at the early services and replaced every 10,000 km, more often in dusty conditions.
Chassis and brakes
- Front fork oil: replaced every 20,000 km.
- Front brake fluid: replaced every 20,000 km.
- Front brake pads, rear brake shoe and brake cam: inspected at every service.
- Steering bearings and swing arm pivot: inspected and lubricated as required every 5,000 km.
Drive chain
- Cleaned and lubricated every 500 km, and cleaned, lubricated and adjusted every 5,000 km. This is the one item that happens between services, and it is up to you. For how to do it at home, see bike chain maintenance.
Engine and electrics
- Valve tappets: inspected and adjusted at intervals through the schedule.
- Throttle body: cleaned every 10,000 km or 12 months. The manual specifies removing it and wiping it with a dry microfibre cloth, and says throttle body cleaners or other solvents must not be used.
- Battery terminals, starter motor and relay connections, and the HT lead: cleaned or checked at every service.
Engine oil
The manual (page 22) specifies SAE 15W50, API SL, JASO MA2, semi-synthetic, about 1.7 litres at a refill (about 2.2 litres if the engine is completely dry). Compared with the earlier Classic 350, which changed oil every 6,000 km, the Hunter runs 10,000 km between changes, so older advice does not carry over. See which engine oil does your bike need? and bike service intervals.
Warranty
The manual states that the warranty applies only if all services are done within their scheduled period or kilometre range at a Royal Enfield authorised dealer or service centre (page 92). While your Hunter is under warranty, keep its services in the Royal Enfield network. More in does doorstep bike service void your warranty?
After the warranty: doorstep service
Once the warranty has ended, the Hunter 350 falls into our Royal Enfield 350–400 cc service, listed at ₹2,999 on the package page, which shows the full checklist and what is excluded. Every service carries a 7-day warranty on our workmanship, and no part is replaced without your approval.
